The name of the new eatery coming soon to downtown Guerneville – Seaside Metal – refers to the antique boats bobbing (and rusting) gently in the nearby Sonoma Coast bays.

As might be anticipated, the concept focuses on seafood, and top quality seafood, as procured and prepared by the owners of San Francisco’s Bar Crudo, chef Mike Selvera and general manager (plus Mike’s twin brother) Tim Selvera.

Yet alongside the oysters, crab, lobster, and cooked or raw fish will also be home-style seafood stews and pan roasts. The idea is “a more rustic version of Bar Crudo,” said Tim, offering 35 seats in a wood and metal-trimmed décor anchored by a raw bar.

If construction cooperates, the Selveras hope to open by March, in the space that used to be Hemp & Chocolat clothing boutique and chocolaterie on Main Street.

So far things are going smoothly, thanks in part to a bit of contractor referral help from fellow restaurateur and chef Crista Luedtke. Her boon eat + drink, boon hotel + spa, and Big Bottom Market have helped transform Guerneville into a hip, happening community over the past several years.

That change motivated the Selveras to invest in the river town, Tim said. He and his brother have been visiting regularly for the last four years, and ultimately, they were reeled in.

Details: Seaside Metal, 16222 Main St., Guerneville.
