Just when it seems that The Barlow couldn’t be getting any better, it has. Next Iron Chef contender Duskie Estes has just spilled the beans: She and her husband-business partner John Stewart have just signed a lease for new space at The Barlow, the 220,000-square-foot, $23.5 million culinary and art center opening soon at Sebastopol Avenue/Hwy. 12 and Morris Street.
It’s hard to keep up with the pigtail sporting, pink Converse sneaker wearing chef these days. Last week, she was named the 10th and final contender for the Next Iron Chef: Redemption series, that premiered on The Food Network Nov. 4. That’s after she bested Iron Chef America challengers Lee Anne Wong and Madison Cowan, plus Robert Trevino of Budatai in Puerto Rico in a web-exclusive “Road to Redemption” tournament on foodnetwork.com.
Estes and Stewart opened their roadhouse-style eatery on Guerneville and Willowside roads in 2001. And while details are still being ironed out (will they close that shop, maybe, when will they open the new place, possibly spring), she does say this:
The Barlow square footage will be larger, and also provide a commissary for making Estes and Stewart’s Black Pig Meat Company products.
“Same menu plus good times beverages and porky bar snackage.” Estes said. “We want a bigger kitchen where John can make our bacon, salumi, and gelato, and where our farmers, Milo and Dylan, can make us all Sonoma County proud.”
